As triple play(data+VoIP+TV) service is becoming popular, more and more cable operators upgrade their coaxial cable network to EPON/GPON+EoC HFC network or triple-play FTTH network to attract users and satisfy their diversified needs.
How is the CATV HFC/FTTH network structure for cable television companies?
In the old building upgrading project, in order to make full use of the current coaxial cable network and save cost,
cable operators adopt EPON/GPON+EoC HFC network. Cable TV signal from optical transmitter and data, VoIP signal from EPON/GPON OLT are combined in EDFA(Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier), divided by PLC splitter, transferred on a single fiber and divided by PLC splitter and reach to EoC master and EoC slave. Then EoC slave terminal demodulates the internet service and CATV service.
In new cable TV and cable internet projects, cable internet service provider can consider about CATV FTTH network.
Cable TV signal from optical transimtter and data, VoIP signal from EPON/GPON OLT are combined in EDFA(Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier), divided by PLC splitter, then tranfered to home located EPON/GPON ONU. Then ONU terminal demodule the internet service and CATV service.
Scenario 1: Pure CATV service application
For some subscribers, such as old people, pure CATV service is enough, then it’s better to use FTTH CATV optical receiver.
Scenario 2: CATV and Ethernet service application
For some subscribers, there is only CATV service at first, but they will add internet serivce. Then we can update the FTTH CATV optical reciever to WDM FTTH CATV optical reciever, which have fiber optical output for connecting to ONU.
Scenario 3: HFC CATV and Ethernet service application
In remade project, in order to avoide destroying the building structure, EPON/GPON + EoC solution is preferrable solution.
Scenario 4: Ethernet+VoIP+CATV triple-play FTTH application
In new projects, in order to attract more subscribers and satisfy their Ethernet+VoIP+CATV triple play service demand, fiber to the home network is the most suitable solution for cable operators.
