Fiber Optic Telecom Co., Ltd

GPON, EPON & XGS-PON OLT — China Supplier & Manufacturer

An Optical Line Terminal (OLT) is the operator-side device in a passive optical network that terminates the fiber from the central office and serves multiple ONT/ONU subscribers over passive splitters. Fiber Optic Telecom (FOT) supplies GPON, EPON, XG-PON and XGS-PON OLT platforms ranging from 1-port pizza-box units to 7-slot chassis systems, covering residential FTTH, FTTB, campus and ISP aggregation deployments.

How to Choose

  • Count the subscribers first — a single GPON port with a 1:128 split typically serves 64–128 subscribers in residential FTTH; size the port count from there.
  • Pick the PON standard by bandwidth target — GPON gives 2.5G down / 1.25G up per port; XGS-PON gives symmetric 10G and is the choice for new-build high-density projects.
  • Check the uplink budget — the uplink (GE / 10GE / 25GE / 100GE) must not become the bottleneck; aggregate PON throughput should stay below ~70% of uplink capacity.
  • Confirm the management interfaces — SNMP, CLI, Telnet, SSH and web are standard; verify compatibility with your existing NMS before ordering.
  • Confirm optical budget — Class B+ (28 dB) vs Class C+ (32 dB) determines reach and split ratio; ask FOT to confirm the SFP class for your link budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Equipment Buyer Questions

What is the difference between GPON, EPON and XGS-PON OLT?

GPON (ITU-T G.984) delivers 2.5 Gbps downstream and 1.25 Gbps upstream per port and dominates outside Asia. EPON (IEEE 802.3ah) is 1.25 Gbps symmetric. XGS-PON (ITU-T G.9807.1) delivers symmetric 10 Gbps and is the upgrade path for bandwidth-intensive FTTH. FOT supplies OLT platforms for all three.

How many ONTs can one GPON port support?

The splitting ratio determines this: 1:64 is typical for dense residential FTTH, and 1:128 is the practical maximum for GPON. XGS-PON platforms from FOT support up to 1:256.

Can FOT OLTs work with third-party ONTs?

Interoperability depends on the PON standard, firmware version and OMCI/OAM implementation. FOT recommends sharing your existing ONT models and firmware before ordering so compatibility can be confirmed in advance.

Do you supply outdoor or industrial OLT models?

The catalog includes compact pizza-box units suitable for cabinet and outdoor enclosure deployment. Share the installation environment and temperature range so FOT can confirm the suitable model.

What is the typical lead time and MOQ?

Lead time depends on model and configuration. Include the model, quantity and target delivery date in your enquiry and FOT will confirm current availability, MOQ and pricing.
