Introduction to VLANs
VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) allow you to logically segment a physical network into multiple broadcast domains. This improves security, reduces broadcast traffic, and simplifies network management.
Step 1: Access the Switch CLI
Connect to your FOT switch via SSH or console cable using a terminal emulator like PuTTY or TeraTerm. Use the credentials supplied for your exact model and firmware; change default credentials before deployment.
Step 2: Enter Global Configuration Mode
Once logged in, type enable and then configure terminal.
Step 3: Create the VLAN
Use the following commands to create a VLAN and assign it a name:
Switch(config)# vlan 10
Switch(config-vlan)# name Guest_Network
Switch(config-vlan)# exit
Step 4: Assign Ports
Assign physical ports to your new VLAN:
Switch(config)# interface gigabitEthernet 0/1
Switch(config-if)# switchport mode access
Switch(config-if)# switchport access vlan 10
Switch(config-if)# exit
Conclusion
Your VLAN is now configured and ready to use! Always remember to save your configuration using write memory.
